Healthcare today generates huge amounts of information that is commonly stored in large datasets, often referred to as "big data." Big data has revolutionized our ability to study health outcomes and healthcare delivery among diverse settings and populations. This is especially true in the field of substance use disorders (SUD) where other data sources may be limited due to challenges in enrolling and retaining people in research studies. However, the use of big data in SUD research requires special skills and understanding of the strengths and limitations of this powerful data source. This seminar will introduce students to these concepts.
